DENTAL PROCEDURES

What's new in CROWNS
Crowns  cover a tooth that is likely to break, or is too broken down to be restored with a filling. They are most commonly done after root canal treatment, or when a large filling wears out.  Crowns provide beauty, strength, and protection. The science and technology of crowns has changed drastically in the last decade.  Newer materials such as lithium disilicate (EMax) and full contour zirconia (BruxZir) crowns have slowly replaced porcelain fused to metal-( PFM) crowns. EMax offers beauty and strenght and is ideal for anterior teeth and asthetics.  As you might guess BruxZir is a high strenght material that is ideal for those who grind their teeth or need bridgework. Either way, both replace that dark line at the gumline often seen with PFM crowns.

IMPLANTS

A dental implant is an option to replace a missing tooth (teeth). In this procedure, a small titanium root is placed into the bone and allowed to set.  Once the implant is firmly set in the mouth, a permanent crown is attached to the implant creating a natural and comforable replacement to the lost tooth.  Implants tend to be long term restorations. They are not subject to decay.

Headaches and NTI

For complete information, please go to www.headacheprevention.com .

NTI-TSS stands for nociceptive trigeminal inhibition--tension suppression system. It's a lot to say but a very simple and elegant concept.  People grind and clench their teeth in response to stress.  Many do so at night and may not be aware of it. Often this leads to tension headaches, sore muscles, and pain. Up to now, the treatments for tooth grinding (bruxism) and clenching have been plastic dental mouth guards.  This solution did not eliminate the grinding but simply softened the effects, i.e. teeth against plastic vs. teeth against teeth.

The NTI-TSS system works in a completely different way.  Your body has natural reflex protects your teeth with a neuromuscular reflex. It happens so fast that you don't even think about it.  A signal is sent that relaxes your jaw muscles and stops you from cracking a tooth.  The NTI-TSS system  takes advantage of this natural reflex to constantly relax your jaw muscles.  It teaches them not clench or brux in the first place.  Instead of softening grinding, it stops it. The muscle tension that is responsible for pain and headaches is gone.
